Resafa takes place during the 3rd century AD in the region of today’s Middle East. While Resafa now lies in ruins in modern-day Syria, it was once a thriving fortified desert outpost, flourishing as a stop along important caravan routes.

In the game, players assume the roles of merchants traveling across the region to buy and sell goods in various cities. Resafa had no natural water sources and depended on large cisterns to collect spring and winter rainwater, making the area habitable. Players build water tanks and canals to distribute this vital resource where it is needed. In the cities, they construct workshops to grow their businesses, collecting resources and camels. Players can also build gardens between their workshops, generating additional resources and earning valuable victory points.

The game spans six rounds, with each player taking only three actions per round by playing action cards. Thoughtful planning and strategic decisions are crucial to becoming the most successful merchant in this tight and thrilling game!
