In the board game Sneferu: Builders of the Pyramids, you take on the role of Egyptian architects summoned by Pharaoh Sneferu after two failed attempts at building a pyramid. Your goal is to build pyramids worthy of the Pharaoh's name. However, only the tallest pyramid will be chosen as the Pharaoh's final resting place. The architect who builds the greatest pyramid will gain wealth and glory, while the others will be punished by their own pyramids collapsing on top of them. This game combines strategy, planning, and resource management in ancient Egypt. You will mine materials such as gold, limestone, and granite, while managing two essential resources: time and food. Time, represented by your boat on the Nile, is a limited resource, so you must carefully plan when to invest in materials and when to save precious resources. The game offers exciting decisions on when to take advantage of the best opportunities provided by quarries and how to best build your pyramid to earn the Pharaoh's favor.

Sneferu was an Egyptian pharaoh who reigned circa between 2543 and 2510 BC. He was the only pharaoh who had three pyramids built. The first attempt to build a pyramid in Sneferu’s lifetime was in Meidum, but the structure collapsed. The second attempt, which came to be known as the Bent Pyramid, had its original angle of inclination changed during construction, resulting in an unmistakable shape. Finally, there is the Red Pyramid. The first successful attempt at constructing a smooth-sided pyramid heralded a new era of pyramid building and became the precursor to the famed Pyramids of Giza.
